#66 Alexander Hamilton
Poster Caption: Alexander Hamilton was unique among the Founding Fathers. He was an immigrant from the Caribbean, a disadvantaged orphan who became a war hero, and a self-made man who rose to become a framer of the Constitution and the architect of the American financial system. He was ahead of his time in his opposition to slavery and prescient about the need for a post-agrarian economy that developed industry and trade within a strong capitalist framework. Pictured here as a young officer in the Revolutionary War, Hamilton died in a duel with Vice President Aaron Burr in 1804. (The Gilder Lehrman Collection)
